I’m hoping this is the right place to ask. I’m graduating college soon and looking for my first full-time job. I got an offer from a company that uses United Healthcare for insurance. Health insurance is a big concern for me since I’m disabled and use it a lot. Can you share your experiences with United Healthcare? I’m especially curious about the prescription benefits. Right now, I’m on my family’s Blue Cross Blue Shield plan, which is okay at best (family deductible is $13,000, individual is $6,000).
Hello @Donna! United Healthcare is a solid choice for insurance, offering a variety of coverage options. I’ve found their customer service helpful, and their prescription benefits are usually pretty good with reasonable copays. It’s worth checking out the plan details to make sure it fits your needs, especially with your medical situation.
I personally work in hospital utilization management, and in my extensive firsthand experience, United Healthcare is by far the most difficult payor to deal with. They frequently deny medically necessary services in bad faith, making them a company I would never choose to use.
AVOID!!!
United Healthcare is marketing low-cost Medicare Advantage plans to senior citizens but frequently denying coverage.
People are having to deal with severe consequences for their health and well-being as a result.
I’ve found their coverage generally reliable, especially in terms of prescription benefits. Initially, I encountered a major issue where a critical medication was denied due to a formulary change, which caused a lot of stress and nearly led to a significant health setback. However, after learning to navigate their system, such as understanding prior authorization processes and utilizing their customer service for appeals, I managed to resolve the issue and secure the medication I needed.
Now, I know how to handle these situations more effectively, and United Healthcare’s prescription benefits have been satisfactory. Their network of pharmacies and mail-order options also provide added convenience and cost savings. Overall, with some initial effort to understand their processes, I’ve found their insurance to be manageable and supportive.
