My Twin Sister Used My Health Insurance?

Hello everyone,

I (28F) have a good job that offers many benefits including dental, vision, and health insurance. I pay almost $90 every two weeks for this insurance.

Last week, I checked my online account and saw three new medical claims had been submitted through my insurance. The bill totals are almost $3,000 as the claims included CT scans and a visit to an emergency room. I know this was my sister as she informed me of an injury sustained on the day the hospital claims are from.

I’m wondering what the likelihood is that the hospital accidentally billed my insurance. I’ve never been to this hospital, so I’m not sure how they would have this information, but I’m trying to figure out what happened before jumping to any conclusions.

Has anyone experienced something similar? What steps should I take to resolve this?

Thanks, :yum:

Most places also require a photo ID when you check in. Did you recently lose a DL? Do you know where your passport is?

Starting with the least opposition, I would inquire about the insurance details that Sister gave to her physicians. It’s time to call the hospital and have them assess the matter if she claims she gave them her own.
You’re dealing with a completely other beast if she intentionally supplied your name and other identifying information to the hospital. Then, this definitely falls into the category of medical identity theft and insurance fraud.

How could that happen when your names are different, even though you’re twins? anyway,Your twin sister using your health insurance without permission can lead to legal and financial complications. Seek advice.
