How can I get Blue Cross Blue Shield to reimburse me for massage therapy?

I go to Massage Envy for regular massages to manage my chronic pain because they’re close, affordable, and friendly. I have a neuromuscular condition (CMT), Fibromyalgia, and Myofascial Pain Syndrome affecting my back and neck, among other issues. Does anyone know how I can get Louisiana Blue Cross Blue Shield to reimburse me for these massages? I can obtain multiple prescriptions from my doctors.

If you want insurance to cover it, you’ll usually need a pro like a physical therapist or part of rehab. With an HSA or FSA, if you got a doctor’s note and prescription, you might get reimbursed.

For that treatment to be covered by your primary medical insurance, it must be provided by a licensed practitioner, like a physical therapist, or as part of a rehabilitation program. On the other hand, you might be eligible for reimbursement under an HSA or FSA if you have a prescription and a statement stating medical necessity.

If you’re looking for insurance that covers massage or practitioners who deal with insurance, you can pay for the massage, request a comprehensive receipt, and have your insurance company reimburse you.
