Emergency insurance

I dont know where else to post this but I am in desperate need of information/ help. My dad a few days ago had 3 massive strokes and has no insurance. The hospital wont pay for inpatient therapy and he has nowhere to go. I’m 7 hours away with a newborn and financially strapped I cant go and help. My sister has a kid and a newborn also and has to work full time she can’t be his nurse and cant financially take that on either. My other sister lives 4 hours away from my dad and she has a family she’s trying to support also. There’s nowhere for my dad to go since he doesnt have insurance and he can not function by himself he needs help 24/7. Is there a way to get emergency insurance for these types of cases. Is that even a thing? I don’t know hardly anything about health insurance and possible options. Any help. Any ideas. Any information would be really really helpful. On top of that he’s going to have to take 10 medications constantly so he doesnt have another stroke and he also needs insulin on top of that.

My dad gets social security every month about 1,700 but thats going to a nursing home that’s willing to take that money so he has a place to go.

There’s no such thing as emergency insurance. The best option is to see if he can qualify for Medicaid.

If he’s still in the hospital, it’s a good idea to speak with a social worker to help him apply for Medicaid.

Usually, Social Security comes with Medicare. Is there a reason why he doesn’t have Medicare?

I wasnt aware you get Medicare with social security that’s not something he ever said he had. I’m not sure as to why he doesn’t have it. But thank you I figured there was no such thing as emergency coverage but I had to ask.

If he has Medicare, the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) is coming up, and he can look into an Advantage plan if he doesn’t have a supplement.

Medicare can be complicated, so he needs a good, honest agent who specializes in it. You can ask around for recommendations or check agent forums.

Since it sounds like he doesn’t have much money and needs a lot of care, it’s important to learn about his options because there are some poor-quality plans out there.

Also, you can buy a small guaranteed life insurance policy. If you buy it, it will stay out of his estate and be safe from creditors. Make sure not to sign as liable for his medical bills.

Do you why he gets social security? Is it do to being 65 or if under 65 does he have a disability?

Usually, when someone gets Social Security, they also receive Medicare, so check his Medicare coverage. Also, speak to the hospital’s social worker about Medicaid, as that would be his only emergency option.

It’s unusual that he isn’t on Medicare. Contact social services at the hospital to discuss his care options, and handle the financial aspects afterward.
