I’m trying to figure out health insurance options in Manassas. Does anyone know if the city offers coverage for residents or where I can find affordable plans? I heard something about HealthMarkets and Healthcare.gov, but I’m not sure where to start. Any advice?
The city doesn’t offer health insurance to residents, but they do have plans for employees through something called the Local Choice Program. You can check their HR site for details.

Yeah, I looked into that before. It’s only for city employees, unfortunately. For residents, Healthcare.gov is a good starting point.
@Hollis
Totally agree. Healthcare.gov lets you compare plans and see if you qualify for any subsidies. It’s pretty straightforward to use.
HealthMarkets is another option. They help you compare plans, and it’s super helpful if you’re overwhelmed by all the choices.

I used HealthMarkets last year. They’re good, but just be ready for a lot of calls from agents once you submit your info.

Lol, so true. The calls can be annoying, but I did end up finding a decent plan through them.
When choosing a plan, make sure to check the deductibles and co-pays. Those can really add up if you use your insurance a lot.

Good point. Also, look at the network coverage. No point in getting a cheap plan if none of your doctors accept it.
FYI, if you need personalized advice, talk to a licensed agent. They can break things down for you and find something that fits your budget.
