Will My Covered California Plan Be Affected If My Green Card Expires?

I currently have free health insurance through Covered California, and my permanent resident card is about to expire. I’ve already started the renewal process, but it might take a while. Since I’m a regular permanent resident (not conditional), my status doesn’t expire—just my card. I know I’ll receive a renewal receipt as proof once I apply, but I’m worried about whether I could lose my health coverage if I don’t get my new card in time.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Will Covered California or L.A. Care ask for an unexpired card to keep my coverage?

It shouldn’t be an issue. Your status as a permanent resident doesn’t expire, just the card. You should be fine.

That’s what I was hoping! I just totally forgot to renew my green card earlier (it’s every 10 years, I believe). I’ve never had to deal with an expired card before, so I got a little worried.
