Why won't my insurance see me just because I have Medi-cal

I was on Medi-cal for a year and recently got a job with health insurance. I made an appointment with my new insurance provider, but they just told me they can’t see me since my Medi-cal is still active. I’ve had situations before where I had both coverages and it was fine. Is it really true that my provider can’t bill my private insurance this time?

The reason they can’t see you is likely that the Medicaid provider has to write off some costs, which they might not want to do.

Keep in mind that providers aren’t obligated to see a patient covered by Medicaid.

This is how the system works… You need to find a doctor who accepts Medi-cal or drop your Medi-cal coverage. If your Medi-cal is active and your provider does not accept it, they can’t charge you for any services, and they can’t bill Medi-cal either, which is why they can decide not to see you.
