Last year, my partner and I got private health insurance through an agent with US Health Group. Now we’re looking to switch to an ACA plan since we’re planning to start a family. I reached out to a new agent, but they told me to go back to the agent we worked with last year. They’re with different companies, so I’m not sure why.
Is there any reason to go back to our old agent? Can I just cancel the US Health Group policy myself and apply directly on the marketplace? Any help is appreciated!
For marketplace insurance, you don’t need to go through an agent or broker. You can apply directly on healthcare.gov, and they have assistance available if you need help. Good move stepping away from the US Health Group policy—it’s basically junk coverage.
Stay far away from US Health Group, Freedom Life, and their subsidiaries. I’ve seen clients come from them with terrible experiences. It’s a wonder they haven’t been shut down by regulators yet.
You can contact US Health Group directly to cancel your policy. It’s a good idea to do this in writing and keep a copy for your records. Just make sure you’re lined up for your new coverage to avoid any gaps.
