Is Pivot Health or North River Insurance Company a Scam?

I just finished canceling my policy with Pivot Health / North River Insurance Company after a terrible experience. A broker recommended them as the best option for my husband and me, but it turned out to be a huge mistake.

They’ve never paid a single claim. We’ve had to cover the costs for every visit, lab test, screening, vaccine, and even flu shots ourselves. They also stopped covering my husband’s generic insulin, which is absurd since he’s only prediabetic now.

I’ve had to make countless calls to get prescriptions covered due to discrepancies between the insurance ID and what’s on our cards. It’s been a nightmare at the pharmacy.

None of the doctors’ offices recognized the insurance, despite being told it could be used with any provider. It felt like we didn’t even have insurance.

We paid $700 a month for essentially nothing. I wish I had paid a bit more for a plan with actual coverage. I’ve since learned that I can use Health Sherpa to find a plan that fits our needs, which starts on April 1.

I’m completely fed up with Pivot Health / North River Insurance. They seem to be a scam, especially considering they offer brokers 18% commissions when the average is 5-10%. My friend had the same issues with this policy.

Just wanted to share my experience and warn others to avoid this insurance, it’s a total racket.

It seems like you purchased a plan that isn’t compliant with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), so it doesn’t have to include the benefits typically required by federal law.

Also, if your new plan starts on April 1, it might not be ACA-compliant either. Be cautious and verify that it covers what you need.

When open enrollment arrives, consider choosing an employer plan, a Marketplace plan, Medicaid, or another ACA-compliant option.

The Biden Administration has been working to crack down on sales of these plans.

The insurance lobby is very strong…think of this when you vote.

Which new plan did you find that’s working well for you? I’m looking for a short-term insurance option, if possible.
