@Cedar
I max it out and pay for everything out of pocket. Good looking out!

This is the way! I treat my HSA like a retirement account rather than a healthcare fund.

Wait, so can you use it for non-healthcare stuff?
@Oli
Sort of—it works like a 401(k) in some ways. Money goes in tax-free, grows tax-free, and withdrawals for medical expenses are tax-free. If you withdraw for non-medical stuff, it’s taxed like regular income.
It’s better than a 401(k) in retirement because you can use it to pay Medicare premiums tax-free.
@Milo
Oh wow, that actually makes so much sense now. Thanks for explaining!
Anthem PPO, $250 per paycheck for me and my spouse (doesn’t include vision/dental).
Just under $800 a month for an individual Kaiser ACA plan, bronze level. Feels like a lot.

Wow, that’s high! I pay $376 for a Kaiser Bronze ACA plan with a $6,000 deductible. Not great, but at least manageable.

$800/month doesn’t really put the ‘affordable’ in ACA, does it?
