Considering Ambetter for Individual Insurance, any thoughts about this?

So, guys, I’m thinking about going for an Ambetter individual health insurance plan, but I’ve been reading some really awful reviews about them. I tried calling a few times to get some questions answered about the plan I’m eyeing, and it was a total nightmare. Their customer service reps either didn’t have a clue about the basics or were giving me completely wrong answers, sometimes even conflicting with each other. I even asked to speak to a supervisor, hoping for some accurate info, but no luck there either.

The only reason I’m even considering their plan is because they offer such a low deductible compared to other insurers. But if my experience trying to get information is anything to go by, it might not be worth it.

Do you think this was just a one-time thing? Any of you guys have or had their insurance? What was your experience like?

Their customer service was absolutely horrendous. Dealing with them felt like a never-ending nightmare. Every time I had to call, I was stuck on the line for at least two hours. Signing up with them was incredibly painful, and to top it off, they failed to send me my insurance card even after three months from the first payment.

I’ve had enough of the hassle, so this year, I’m definitely switching to a better option.

Yeah, that’s pretty much exactly what I went through. Just to get answers to three simple questions, I had to call a whopping 10 times, and each call lasted at least an hour. And you know what’s crazy? Even after all that effort, I still didn’t get accurate answers because every agent and supervisor I spoke to gave me completely different information. Most of the lower-tier agents were so clueless—they didn’t even understand basic terms like “out of pocket maximum.” I couldn’t tell if this was just how they always operated, or if, like someone else mentioned, they hire a bunch of temps during open enrollment who are poorly trained.

Considering I have some chronic illnesses and will likely be using the insurance quite a bit, the last thing I need is to spend hours on the phone getting frustrated because nobody knows what’s going on or how to fix it.

Can I ask how often you had to call them? And have you decided which company you’re switching to?

I’m an Ohio broker…This is the firm I created for myself this year. They have been really bad. The networks are limited, no pre-certifications are provided, and customer service is poor. Literally the worst company I’ve sold, as well as the worst company I’ve ever worked for.
