Charged two co-pays for one visit?

I had booked an appointment with a specialist and was careful to confirm the fees and that the specialist was in-network. However, when I arrived, the doctor brought in a colleague without my consent for a second opinion and charged me for two separate appointments and co-pays. I tried discussing this with the billing department, but they explained that they charge for the services of every doctor who walks into the room.

I feel it’s unfair, and I didn’t ask for a second opinion or agree to the additional charges. I’m concerned about future appointments and the potential for double fees. Can I dispute this, and how can I ensure this doesn’t happen again? I appreciate any advice on this matter.

You can dispute the extra charges and for future appointments, ask about any additional fees upfront and make sure you agree to them.

You might want to report the issue to the NAIC, they could investigate the specialists for insurance fraud
