Most insurance plans don’t cover grandchildren unless you have legal custody. You may need to apply for Medicaid or another short-term plan for the baby.

Most insurance won’t cover dependent pregnancy either. Check that too.

There’s a chance you’ll go into labor before your due date. I’d apply for Medicaid now just in case. You could also keep the baby on Medicaid for 60 days before switching to your husband’s plan.

Do I have to apply for Medicaid myself too? I still qualify for my parents’ insurance for a few more years, so I’d rather stay on theirs if I can.

You can be on both Medicaid and your parents’ plan at the same time. Medicaid would be secondary.
