Anyone else kicked off tricare… what’s next?

I don’t know if anyone on this forum has dealt with this, but I just got kicked off tricare at 21 last month. My family is overseas, and they haven’t been that helpful. I’m worried because it’s illegal in Wisconsin where I live to not have insurance. I’m thinking about getting tricare young adult, but since there’s no base close to me, it would cost about $730 a month, which is almost half of what I earn monthly. I was fine until I lost my coverage, but now I’m experiencing some pretty concerning symptoms like rapid weight loss. It feels overwhelming with all the info online, and every site seems to want my phone number. I’m also planning to get a second job by March and I’m living with my grandparents for now.

Did you just turn 21? I haven’t been on tricare for a bit, so I’m not clear on when they remove you. If you lost coverage, you can enroll in healthcare.gov (if your state has its own marketplace, you’ll be redirected there). You might qualify for financial assistance, making your premium lower than the tricare option you mentioned. Just remember, you have 60 days from losing coverage to sign up.

I think tricare usually ends at 21 unless you’re in school, right? After that, it’s 26? Given your income, are you eligible for Medicaid? That could be a great option for you.

You may want to check out WisCovered.com for marketplace plans. You might qualify for financial help.
