Any issues with Blue Cross Blue Shield lately?

I’ve been having some trouble with my insurance through BCBS lately. I’ve been trying to book an appointment at my local women’s clinic, but they keep saying they can’t find my insurance.

I’m 21 and still on my mom’s insurance plan, which I’ve had for as long as I can remember. Nothing has changed, yet the clinic insists that my insurance isn’t showing up. I had no issue booking the same appointment last year when everything was fine.

I’m looking for advice on what to do next. Is there something new with BCBS or could the receptionist be entering my details incorrectly?

If anyone has any insight, please share in the comments!

Which BCBS are you referring to? It’s not just one company. Is it connected to your mom’s job or did she sign up through the marketplace? Do you have your old card handy?

It’s Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona! I believe she signed up through the marketplace quite a while ago. I still have my old card, but I’m not sure if the ID number has changed or not. I’m planning to call BCBS today to figure things out.

The card details will tell you who to call. It should relate to the BCBS from the state where your mom lives.

If your mom switched to another plan, maybe you didn’t get a new card yet. Your best bet is to check with her if BCBS can’t help.

Oh okay! I’m not sure… I don’t have my card at work since we can’t bring personal stuff inside. I’ll wait until my break to contact them.

Can you just text or call your mom? That might be easier.

Have you considered calling them yourself to check what’s going on? Is this a new card or do you still have last year’s card?

I think it’s likely that the ID number has changed this year, and I still have last year’s card. I’ll reach out to them today when I get a chance!

Try logging into the Sydney app to see your information. You can find a digital card there and send it to the providers if needed.

I haven’t experienced any issues with my BCBS plan.

They might be missing the plan prefix or group number. This often happens if your coverage is through an out-of-state BCBS company.

Have you tried calling BCBS? That seems like a good starting point.

Actually, I think my clinic might have entered the wrong information. My mom called while I was at work and they said I’m listed under a different insurance? I can’t remember the name, but it wasn’t BCBS, haha! She checked online and said my ID number didn’t change, so I guess I’ll just show up early to my appointment tomorrow and sort out the paperwork in person since I don’t know how it got so messy over the phone.

@Rye
Make sure you have a copy of your insurance card. With this mix-up, they might not see you without the current card.

Will do! Thanks for the reminder!

Can you check the member portal? BCBS sometimes changes member ID numbers at the start of the plan year.

Oh, that could be it… I’ll have to get my mom to share the login details.

@Rye
You can also contact member services to see if you have a new ID number, but be ready for long hold times.

Thanks! I’ll try calling them during my break at work today!
